good. Has two separate books in it. Lest Darkness Fall comes first and is better. It is one of the first using the science fiction concept of a modern person transported back into time at a key moment in history. In this case, the person is Martin Padway, who is struck by lightning and hurled from Rome in 1929 to Rome in the 6th Century. Sprague de Camp, the author of this one, does a nice job of portraying the impact on the ordinary person who gets caught up in the new world. And the details of life back in Rome are very interesting.
Alas, Drake's story, to Bring the Light, is not very good. |
