Excellent. This is the fourth best science fiction book ever! Only The Mote in God's Eye, A Fire Upon the Deep and Dune are better. And incredibly, Ender's Game is written using a young boy, Ender Wiggins, as the hero. Ender's Game is readable and enjoyable by both adults and children. The moral lessons and quandaries here are mind-boggling. Ender's Game is the saddest science fiction book ever written. High school English classes really ought to teach this book. For that matter, so should military academies.
The story has mankind in a war against mysterious and powerful aliens. The aliens are insectoid. The military is training children to take roles in the war's conduct, though exactly what role is a mystery.
The action never stops. That action includes family matters, fights and rivalries among children, competition for success, and military activity. The author's perspective towards young children is right on. Even as the children in the book are used for the adults' purposes, they get to engage in cool war games. The science fiction is outstanding, too, and we even see man improve technologically as the book moves along. The future technology includes faster than light travel and powerful weapons. Buy Ender's Game now, and read it. |
